Kurt began his engineering career at General Motors Advanced Engineering
Staff in 1970, and in various engineering positions from 1975 to 1987, working
on a variety of advanced projects including engine characterization and control
optimization, vehicle navigation systems, powertrain simulation, traction
control, and active suspension systems, and developing extensive experience in
software development and data analysis. While at the University of
Michigan in 1975 he specialized in modern optics and worked on super-resolution
imaging. Kurt joined Automotive Systems Laboratory at its inception in
1987, where he worked as a Director of Safety Systems on the development of
advanced inflatable occupant restraint systems. From 1990-1993, Kurt
attended West Virginia University, where he invented a toroidal antenna that
became the topic of his Ph.D. dissertation. Before joining with Raggio & Dinnin, Dr. VanVoorhies consulted to Lyon, P.C. prosecuting patents in the
mechanical, electrical, optical, and software arts.
